its 1999, you're ok
A note for engineers, product people, all of us really...about what comes next.
First, you're fine.
I don't write a lot of these. Or I haven't historically. I aspire to. Like a lot of things, I'd like to do.
But mostly I just want you to know - you're fine. You are ok.
I've been in tech for like 25 years which is nuts. And I can tell you with 1000% authority 2 things:
- I don't know what's coming next
- YOU. ARE. OK.
[Before we proceed I think we need to assume you have read the disclaimer.]
My current favorite hot takes are "if you're not doing XYZ with AI you're cooked"!".
Given my limited reach I'm guessing if you're reading this you're either:
- an engineer/technical person and you're excited about AI but nervous about what it means for your career
- a tech fwd person who operates as a marketer or product manager and...see bullet point one above
- a director/vp/cx/pe type person who's feeling the crunch: we have to do AI but I don't even really know what it means, I just know we have to
To all of you, literally everyone, all I can say is "you're fine".
Salesforce was founded in 1999. Hubspot was founded in 2006.
Would you say Hubspot missed the SaaS wave?
With AI we are in 1999. You're fine.
